Canuck Sportliness

During Isolation-cation, Barry and I went out to do the sports, and get the fitnesses!
Here are some crazy Canuck sports.
The first sport is called après-ski, which is like swimming. We are so good at this that we replace the pendant-ski with this part too.
To make it sportier, and possibly more Scandinavian (unclear, difficult to verify, too lazy to ask Scandinavian friends), we jumped into the snow first. Once was enough.
Winter sports can bring out your snow face: here is Barry's:
Here is mine. Also, this is how far I sunk into the snow.
Swam my way outta that one.
So, next sport: snowshoeing. Pros: Allows walking on lotsadeep snow to go see the mountain fogs. Cons: Is not actually fun, feels like trying to run immediately upon waking from surgery.
My parents pointed out that limited action shots cast doubts on my sportiness, but I leave the reader to judge.
The messier one is Barry, as usual.

Airbnb Reads: An Isolation-cation study

In our isolation-cation, we are staying at airbnbs. This one has a nice view, and many nice reading choices. I read a book on Haida Gwaii, which is a Canadian archipelago roughly the size of Lebanon, about which I had no clue. It's nice to have bonus airbnb reading. However...Some reading might not be ideal for guests. I present to you: Discovering the Mind of a Woman, 2005 study guide!
Now, before you toss your oatmeal across the room, I'll summarize this book for you:
  1. First and foremost, it's all about Christianity and being more "Jesus-like". This book actually argues that god sees women as equal, or at least useful.
  2. The novel concept here is that wives (and we're only talking about married heteros here) do not like men to be complete jerks. Most of the book explains to men examples of being a jerk, and explains why they're jerks, as shown.
  3. To be Jesus-like, you should be nice to your wife.
Now, I'm certainly not aware of how Jesus treated women (which disciples were female?), and I'm not gonna read up on this, but that might be because I have the wrong attitude.
Speaking of women, you know what they should do? Pray! Now, I didn't read this one, but fun fact: Stormie Omartian used to date Steve Martin before she married hubby Omartian - presumably because of his awesome name. Or maybe he just wasn't the best "father, leader and decision-maker". I don't know.
So, if the Woman's mind & prayers may not be ideal airbnb reading, it gets worse. Pretty much anything by an author whose occupation is listed as "conspiracy theorist" isn't considered fun vacation reading. In case you were curious, Dinesh D'Souza was pardoned by Trump for an election fraud felony in support of Trump, has been accused of domestic violence, and has other writings and opinions too offensive to mention.
So onto to something more light and fun! How about cleansing? Carlson Wade was one of the pioneers of health fad quackery, inspiring celebrities like Dr. Oz for decades to come! But, fun fact, he started his career with titles such as Sexual Deviations of the American Female and The Troubled Sex, which are as bad as they sound.
Inner Cleansing has a lot of great solutions for sludge! Cure asthma with alternate nostril breathing - it gets the "sludge" out of your lungs!
Got blood pressure problems? Sludge in your arteries! Munch on raw garlic, and it will solve your personal problems too!
This book even tells you have to clean out "ear sludge" and "eye sludge"! It's so complete, I was surprised that he wrote 22 more books, including Eat Away Illness, and Bible Healing Foods!
Anyway, can't talk now, gotta go drink a cabbage.
Let's end with some of my faves: Trinny and Susannah's book, apparently titled: What can you change wear your life (see shirts). Now, I get that people like watching humans get humiliated, damaged, and "made over" on "reality TV", although I've never understood why. However, in a written format, this comes across as yet another "how women need to do stuff differently because gender" book.
There were a few in the series. Here, Trinny and Suze show us how to organize our lives while harming our foot structure. As wealthy fashion insulters, they're qualified.
All you need to do to be happy is work harder, clean your house more, write more things down, raise perfect children, cook delicious healthy meals, look great, have a social life, enjoy true love, find time for yourself, meditate, have confidence and never feel insufficient!

Being Canadian Isolation-cation!

We took an isolation-cation to BC, to practice being Canadian. Here, I'm failing to be a hunter, which is probably best.Barry did a bit better.
And over time, he improved (that's his breath, not a cloud).
We ate traditional Canadian food, and watched traditional Canadian entertainment, until the games were ended. It turns out hockey is a contact spitty sport.
We figured out how to take freezie-selfies like this!
The reason is, if you take a normal selfie, you get the cold face, and the puffy jacket bod, which adds, I dunno, 25kg?
It's ok, it even happens to ducks.
We went to the Osoyoos Band First Nations reserve, which is in the desert. I did not know that Canada had deserts that were not tundra! (We are not from this part of Canada.)
Barry says the above is a good picture of a dessert rose. I say "shrug emoji". Below is a sculpture that we should have photographed with desert in the background, but the cold clouded our synapses.
Speaking of cold, Spotted Lake is an Okanagan Nation cultural site with amazingly cool and full of green globs that you can't see in winter - true story! It's in the middle of the picture, above the fence.
Getting better at being Canadian, managed a selfie with minimal face scrunch!

Happy Holidays from Singapore!

Happy holidays from Singapore, where the lights change for the season!
In fact, there were various thematic displays. So you know, Christmas with dinosaurs, robots, teddy bears, spaceships. I figure there's actually enough themes already, but I'm no expert.
Anyway, Mark and Alex helped us to be festive with a festive Magic Mixie.
Both entertaining and disturbing, the Mixie is apparently very popular this year (with other age groups).
This is my festive bun.
Shoes & Booze adjusted the menu accordingly.
And we ate traditional freshly-baked bunnies. Jokes, I have no idea what this place sells.
We did some Christmas shopping in the forest. We found a spot with TWO rice makers! It's not like there are rice makers all over the jungle - these are the only two I've ever seen.
We found a great brain mushroom, which, once again I believe to be new to science (or, less likely, my online mycology skills still fail to advance). I shall call it the Dolly Partenus in honour of Mark.
We went past the phone wire trippers,
Through the fiddlehead pricklers,
And climbed one of Singapore's hills. I tried to show Barry for perspective, but that's tricky jungleside.
Proof we climbed? There was a nice view through the trees.
I shopped leaf fashion. I still think I could do something cooler with these leaf giants.
Oh, and we did some eating! Got a corn craving? Nixta has the best tortillas I've ever had, made with crunchy smoked corn.
Wanna eat fancy stuff? We can't resist taking pictures. I'm not at all sure what the purpose of these pictures is, though.
Above is a really pretty thing that we ate. Below, Barry trying to get the right picture for his, well, phone storage.
Feel like fancy Singaporean? We recently discovered Ibid, whose chef won Master Chef Asia, and we felt shame that we didn't know about it earlier!
