Walking through Yangon, here is what you find.Crabs, claws sold separately. Likely partially precooked in the heat. Brooms.
Mangosteen.
Bananas are sold by people wearing Burmese makeup, thanaka.Birdhouses outside the market provide decorative, if confusing, interest.Buckets of everything that you could need.

Monk'd

After four years in Asia, trying to subtly take pictures of monks...It turns out, if you go to the right places, you're weird enough that they want to take pictures of you! Not a word of english was exchanged.

Lesser-known Evils

This is my favourite picture of the week, which I call The evil of filing.
Next, just some pictures of our neighbourhood haunted house. How about: Ancient Muslim graveyard at night. Scary, no?If that didn't work, then let's ponder these happy and photogenic kayakers. Here is the sludgebuster and the yuck of the water they're paddling in! Now you have fear. Finally, this is Frankenbuilding. Seen in Sydney, it's modern condos grafted onto an ancient church. It may also eat children, just sayin'.

Engrish of the week

Barry's Engrish umbrella did not make it through the week.
however, for some reason Barry decided he needed an Amazone shirt.Barry has also taken up a new sport: Li Ning! The above Engrish expresses our need for faster aviation. And this one says that a sweet tooth helps your love life.I'll let you interpret the above. Below is Barry's new Indian shirt. Turns out it's a bit more religious than he'd hoped. And on that note, here are some deep thoughts.

Quick Trip South

We kept busy this weekend doing mirror photography and contemplating architecture.
But guess where we went 2 weeks ago. Hint: There was Lebanese food.
There were large burgers made out of questionable meat. And if you go to a wedding, you can wear a fascinator as shown above. Such is the way of a wedding in Australia.
Even the French McDonalds has no worries.

Lucky French Harmonicas

The costumes of the week are made of stone. The language of the week is Beginner French as spoken in Africa, and apparently intermediate level as spoken in Spain? The construction company of the week is shown below. We hope neither is used for construction. The Festival of the week is the Harmonica Festival, lasting 4 days! The biomechanics man is shocked!Creepy snow sculptures of the week include aliens
And the scary happy family. I'd take the aliens any day.Perhaps you wonder about some of the things 7-11 sells here? Well there's Craze Hottis, which are between the slurpees and the mashed potato machine.
More delicious is Roti John, below left. This is a fried egg, onion, meat and bread combo with mayo and chili sauce. It was invented for the original white colonials (hence the name), apparently as a hangover cure.Speaking of hangovers, the hotel of the week is the Hoover hotel. Freshly vacuumed!

Hotel Hobbies

Ever find yourself bored in an esthetically luxurious hotel as shown above? Well, inspired by the book "Hotel Hobbies", I tried to entertain myself. Hobby #1: soap carving.Harder than I thought, but I made a nice flower, no?I decided to make up my own hobbies. How about hotel gastronomy. Reheating pizza: Kettle and steaming cup method does not work well. Hairdryer method: Works better, however bathroom covered in herbs.
Iron method: Not sure how, too scary, orientation challenges.Hotel hobby #3: Towel Origami. Total failure, the book lied. This was supposed to be a chicken.More successful: hotel spa pedicure. (Suggest wine is not minibar variety).
Relaxing foot scrub sadly only increases boredom.Overall verdict: hotel hobbies pass the time, but you may end up just as bored as you started.
